With the Fight UK Amateur Championships only a few days away, MMA Pundit had a quick chat with Liam Corrigan who is fighting for the Fight UK Lightweight Amatuer Title on Sunday 11th September.
How’s your training camp been and how are you feeling?
This training camp has been amazing, I’ve done everything right and it’s the first camp where I’ve been injury free the whole way through so I’m peaking at just the right time. I’m feeling very prepared and excited to finally get to fight after all the hard work that I’ve put in, this is the fun part.
Have you trained any different for this fight to any other?
I’ve trained everything for this fight, my hands feel great and my wrestling and jiu-jitsu is on point, there’s a lot of new things I’ve added to my arsenal. I think people are finally going to get to see what I can really do; this will be my best performance to date by far.
FIGHT UK have ordered in a 32ft professional cage. Will this extra space help your game?
Definitely I like to be able to move around and use space to setup my attacks although I’m very comfortable against the cage wall as well.
Tell us how do you think you will win this fight?
I will finish this fight. That’s all I’m saying. It could end in many different ways as I’m so well-tuned at the moment. I’m definitely getting knockout or submission of the night.
Have you thought about fighting anyone specific for your next fight?
I would never look past an opponent. Everything I’ve done over the last few weeks has been geared towards this fight and that’s exactly where my focus is right now.
Where do you see your MMA career going next?
I see me defending the Fight UK lightweight title for a long time! I take each fight as it comes so I’m not thinking about the future.
Any one you would like to thank?
Everyone at Leicester Shootfighters especially Nathan Leverton, Rob Hannis, Ranjeet Baria and Paul Barton who have all helped me massively throughout this camp. My girlfriend Hazel for all her support and everyone who has come to support me and appreciates the hard work and dedication I put into this sport. Lastly Fight UK for their support and for giving me this opportunity.
